ISABELLA POINT
Surrounding a home outlooking the Straight of Georgia, we created a meadow of ornamental grasses and masses of native flowers, gently blending into the surrounding West Coast forest. The bocce court, built with locally sourced oyster shells, provides one of the best views in the garden. Natural stone stairs and pea gravel pathways lead to the lap pool and outdoor sauna. Creating a lush garden that framed but did not obstruct the ocean views was a key design challenge; we met this by stepping the two expansive bluestone patios into the sloping front acreage and situating the fireplace seating and dining on the outer edges. The material palette of flagstone, oyster shells, stone, and steel was selected for its elegant and timeless feel, along with the ability to withstand the oceanfront environment. Two foot steel retaining walls separating the two patio spaces are complemented by a steel fire bowl. Along with the integral relaxed beauty of meadows, creating wildlife habitat and pollination was the focus of our plant palette selection, sourced from a local grower. This property grew from a desolate construction site into a nature lover’s Gulf Island paradise that is truly one of our favourite projects to date.
