Somenos

Nestled beneath the trio of a Garry Oak, Cedar, and Willow tree, Somenos challenged our design team to seamlessly connect the existing home and landscape with fresh eyes in an artistic, playful, and captivating way. The newly renovated 1970’s rancher was modernized in a clean, minimalistic manner by D’Arcy Architects creating the perfect backdrop for a whimsical landscape to unfold in both the front and back gardens. The entryway to the home was composed of primarily native plants offering layered hues of green, through which we thoughtfully wove an elevated concrete walkway around the mighty oak trees, guiding users to the rear garden. Here we blended elements of the classic English rose garden with the new-wave perennial movement, combining roses and boxwoods with bamboo, ornamental grasses and flowering perennials. The plantings provide a sense of journey and wonder as users move through the site, unveiling various focal points throughout the site such as the homeowners beloved art pieces, custom planters, and an audibly pleasing water feature. The end result is a garden that feels peaceful, playful and modern, just like the homeowners.
