STIRLING ARM

Located off the larger Sproat Lake, Stirling Arm is a quiet inlet where peaceful wilderness awaits. With sensitive foreshore projects, our design intention is always to achieve our clients goals while being informed by, and taking the utmost care of, the ecosystem we are working within. The planting plan for this Lakeside property is a combination of drought tolerant, ornamental grasses and flowering herbaceous perennials. The grasses offer structure and movement, and the perennials add visual interest while inviting key pollinator species into the space. Throughout the whole site, native forest and wetland plants were integrated to enhance the local habitat and contribute to supporting the local ecosystems. For the hardscape elements, natural materials are always our first choice. A combination of flamed & chiselled basalt stone creates the stair cases, and flagstone for the patio spaces. Natural granite sourced from a nearby quarry create the tiered stone walls. A cedar hot tub countersunk into a cantilevered deck added a luxurious feature to the lakeside patio, while the smooth and durable IPE wood decking maintains a West Coast feel. Other special features included a natural playground for the clients’ young children, and a stone fireplace with a custom curved bench facing the lake and extending the use of the space into the night.
