Tofino Resort + marina

Teaming up with the innovative and visionary design and build firm ARYZE Developments, we undertook to breathe new life into an iconic landmark of the coastal town of Tofino. Our task was to turn a collection of tired buildings and lifeless parking lots into an enticing destination for locals and visitors to dine, stay and partake in world class marine adventures. Our scope included way-finding and re-imaging how to move through a resort complex made up of multiple buildings and uses. With the extreme weather that Tofino is renowned for we had to select plant material that could withstand intense rain and wind and look great year round without any site irrigation. We selected plant material in tune with the new black and white architectural tones which served as the perfect backdrop for the verdant West Coast forest. The large site required interconnected covered walkways that spanned the hotel units down to the marine center and restaurants along with continuous lighting and fencing delineation plan. This design and installation coincided with the birth of my first daughter, making the remote design and project management scope both challenging and in the end momentous and rewarding.
